Absolutely demented dancehall built on Swiss noisemaker Simon Grab’s oscillating feedback riddims and the raw rumbling rhymes of the Togo-based rapper Yao Bobby
YAO BOBBY
Since the 1990s, Yao Bobby has been making his mark as an activist in African rap
and has participated in building up a Pan-African hip hop movement. He has
released on Nomadic Wax New York and has been featured on many albums. He
lives in Agbodrafo Togo where he opened up a small cultural centre for music and
arts, with exhibitions, concerts and community works.

SIMON GRAB
Simon Grab has been on the experimental electronic music path since early 90ies.
With his solo works he releases on -ous Records Zurich and sound-space London.
His recent musical hyperactivity lead him to a crazy collaboration between him, Duma
(Kenya, Nyege Nyege), Deaf Kids (Brasil) and Petbrick (UK, Brasil). They have just
released an album as a game (https://roam.novasfrequencias.com).

DHANGSHA tracks are dark, edgy soundscapes characterised by modulating frequencies hijacked from techno, underpinned by heavy off-kilter beats and mangled to give the impression of listening through damaged speakers. The remit is to explore of minimalism, repetition and fragmentation in sound.
The name “Dhangsha” is from Bengali for ‘destruction,’ relating not only to a sonic approach, but a de-construction of ideas that do not have the best interests of people or communities at heart. Titles like “Ecotage,” Earth Bloc and “Dead Zone” betray the underlying political concerns that inform the urgency of Dhangsha’s soundscapes.
