Slovenian trio Širom return to The Rose Hill after their sell-out show last year!
These three self-taught musicians ingeniously connect the dots between past and present – taking inspiration from avant-folk, free improvisation and various global music traditions.
“Širom fashion maximalist avant-garde soundscapes from antique acoustic instruments like the balafon and hurdy gurdy. Their artfully rootless roots music makes an impassioned statement both aesthetically and, more opaquely, politically too.”

“I got to finally catch Širom in their glory of home ground – outstanding.”
– Gilles Peterson, BBC6
“Beautiful, messy, playful, terrifying, sweet stuff – you never knew where they were going to go.”
– Jude Rogers, Guardian
Athina B
Named for a Brighton shipwreck and a fragment of a Slum of Legs lyric, Athina B are a band playing from the liminal spaces – capturing the sounds of twilight, halfway between dream and memory where birds are caught midflight, lit by a setting sun.
Helmed by local favourites YOU&TH and Rdyer, with occasional guests and passers through, they turn found sounds, layered violin, bells, polyrhythms, harps, chants and charms into semi-improvised paeans to time and life and joy.
With only a few performances to their name, they’ve already built a reputation for riveting performances and incredible on-stage chemistry. Not to be missed.
