Lost Property presents an intimate workshop with Maria Chávez at the Coach House, Brighton!

“I work with sounds that society tells us are wrong, that we’re not supposed to make these sounds and that’s what I am creating my sound sculptures with.”
Born in Lima, Peru, Maria Chávez is known as an abstract turntablist, sound artist and DJ. Her work unites the themes of accidents, coincidence and failures producing sound sculptures, installations and other works with her solo turntable performance practice. In 2012 Maria released ‘OF TECHNIQUE: Chance Procedures on Turntable’, a book of essays and illustrations that guide budding turntablists through the world of needles and vinyl through the lens of deterioration, destruction and the unexpected. During the workshop, Maria will run through some of the techniques and approaches that she has explored throughout her career.
We will provide all equipment necessary but please bring your own records. Don’t bring anything you don’t mind destroying!
Wednesday 16th November, 18:30.
